My Day on Ellis Island

Ellis Island is an island where immigrants came to be free.  While they were at Ellis Island, they had to take tests.  Some of them didn’t pass the test.  This meant they had to go back home, but they didn’t want to!  They had to pass an eye test first.  The doctors pulled their eye lids back to look  for a disease.  They used a long medal hook to do it and it was very painful to them!  After the eye test, they had to check for lice.  The immigrants also had to draw a diamond to make it through.  They also asked math questions and how to spell their name.  Once they passed all the tests they took another boat to New York!  Their faces were full of tears, joy, and relief!!  I think everyone should go visit Ellis Island because you can see what immigrants went through to come to our country.

I hope you keep reading!

Note from Mom…she visited Ellis Island on July 6th. We are just late with a few posts.

  2. Thank you for sharing. It makes me sad to think about difficult things that others have to go through, but at the same time it makes me appreciate all that I have!

  3. Yay! You went to Ellis Island. I hope you remember learning about it in class. I love learning about places before I go because then when I see them I can learn even more. I love reading your blog. 🙂
