Kenia in the Middle

Navigating the world & life as a middle sister!

Moment of the Week!

I recently hung out with one of my close friends from high school. Trying to fit one another into packed schedules over the holidays, we went and grabbed a chai down in Dana and walked around the farmers market for a bit. Something small just to check in. Granted, I know I’ll see her a few more times before break ends. However, for some reason, this time we hung out really stuck with me.

Over the past few years, regardless of different lives, friends, and other circumstances we’ve managed to get closer than we were in high school. Weird to think about how that might happen. I thought more about it once I got home and realized how much I appreciate a friend like her. Low maintenance, low stakes, but genuine through and through. She is supportive without question nor judgment and always has my best interest in mind.

We may not keep in touch very well while we’re away. It’s hard to text and there’s not much time to call but never once have I questioned our friendship or felt a distance with her. There is so much value in that dynamic, especially as everyone is going through big life changes, with most of my friends and I soon graduating and stepping into adulthood.

This experience showed me something I didn’t even know I needed until I stepped back and looked more closely at my relationships. In a world that’s always shifting, I’m grateful for this constant and the handful of others that keep me grounded.
