What up guys! Day 2 with the children’s group. Today we went to a small community located next to Laguna los Corozos. Within the community an organization has created called Proyecto Península de Cantera. It was formed in 1992 to protect the lagoon and the surrounding communities. After the hurricane most of their progress was destroyed and the community really struggled so since then they’ve been trying to get as many volunteers as they can out working to restore what once was. Our goal today was to learn about the purpose of this project as well as join them in continuing their progress. We cleaned up trash on all the docks, tore out some weeds, and for the youngest group we had them help repaint some of the signs to label the plants. Hanging out with the younger kids has been so fun for me these past two days, because if you didn’t know I love kids! I didn’t know how many connections Yvette had with other organizations that she also contributes to. It’s so admirable for her to commit so much time making these connections and helping where help is needed. After we finished up we went back to hostel. With being so exhausted after today I didn’t have much energy to go lay out in the sun again, so I decided to go for a slight walk and just chill the rest of the night. I caught up with some friends from home and went to bed. New group incoming tomorrow, hope you enjoyed today’s fun as much as I did!
