Last week in the beautiful Puerto Rico! This week we have 3 group projects, today, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Students and their parents mainly from Virginia will be working with us both today and tomorrow. Today we went to Isla Verde beach to plant all the seeds I’ve been extracting to expand the vegetation in the park. We also painted signs to label the plants with the younger kids. I got more of a leadership role today with the kids which felt great! I love the responsibility and trust Yvette has begun giving me. Maria brought some fresh mangos from her garden for everyone as well, such a sweet treat! We were working for a couple hours then all took a quick swim in the ocean before heading back. It was a wonderful work day. We headed back and I walked to one of the farther beaches today to switch it up. I got myself a nice cold coke and enjoyed the sun! I started getting a little headache so I went back to the hostel to eat. As I mentioned last week Yvette gave me plantains, so today I decided I’d try to make them. With the limited resources I have in the kitchen, no recipe, and no idea how a sweet plantain is supposed to be cooked, I tried my best. It turned out…mediocre. When I get home I’d love to try again the proper way! Once it cooled down I went on a run on the track again by the hostel. Todays run was so nice, my pace has been improving a lot! I was super tired after so once I showered I knocked out. It was good to knock out early anyways because this week we start at 8 versus 10. Tomorrow we’re with the same group at a new location, I can’t wait to see it!
