Kenia in the Middle

ITS FRIDAY!! Last day of week one volunteering and let me just tell you it’s STANK. We had to compost today and I think there was legit poop in it. I’ve done slight composting at home but nothing compared to the extent they go to. They use every single scrap to contribute. It was super interesting to learn about and be apart of, although it was pretty hard work mixing all of it together. Also guess what, I got to use a wood chipper today! Extremely loud to the point of a headache but so sick that I got to see all these but and pieces just break apart into what we’d be using as mulch for the soil. It’s amazing how much they care about using every possible thing they can. They get local restaurants to donate their food scraps as well to use in the compost, and when they drive past people cutting trees or gardening they take those scraps as well to put in the wood chipper. The most tiring day of work we’ve had so far but I learned so much so definitely worth the hard work. But now it’s time for our first weekend! Belle and I had told one of the other girls in the room that we’d love to go out for dinner one of the nights so that was our original plan. However, their was two brothers in the room that we had vaguely talked to just passing through the room and such. So we invited them to come out with us, definitely a good decision. We all clicked so well just making the most dumb jokes throughout dinner. It was like we’d known them forever. Their names and Xander and Adam from Maryland. I’ve noticed lots of people from Maryland come here to vacation. After dinner they asked if we wanted to go to the “it street” La Placita which is where all the bars/clubs are. We all went back changed and headed out, the second we got there it was filled with life and music, people all over the place just having fun. Crazy new environment for me and I loved it! We stayed out till like 3 am then finally went back to the hostel, but we didn’t go to bed yet, lots of people were up on the roof so we went up there and hung out and even ended up staying up for the sunrise. The beach is so comforting in the morning with the slight wind and all the colors in the sky. I decided to take a walk and find some sea glass cause there was plenty where I ended up going. Overall a crazy fun day and definitely highlight of the trip so far 🙂
